Food Can Help You Live Longer (and Other Seed Successes, Mon, 3.7.11 - Sun, 3.13.11)

About one half of all African-American women will die from stroke or heart disease, according to the National Stroke Association, and while genetics surely play a role, so does food, writes Anamarie Shreeves in her article, 8 Foods That Will Help You Live Longer on Black Voices: Wellness.

Broccoli, kale, and kidney beans are just a few items you might want to add to your grocery list, and you'll want to commit to exercise, too, in your quest for good health. While you're busy revamping your lifestyle, you might want to pay attention to these three health signs you should never ignore.

Congrats to last week's 24 Seed contributors, who published 48 stories on 11 AOL sites. You can see them all by scrolling down for a complete listing of all published works.

Charlie Sheen Needs African Parents (and Other Seed Successes, Mon, 2.28.11 - Sun, 3.6.11)

Charlie Sheen might behave not so badly if he had African parents, writes China Okasi in her Black Voices on Money story, Man, If Charlie Sheen Had Some African Parents.... Yep, the "winning" actor might not be disgracing himself and his family quite so much had he grown up hearing these words: "HEY! Come and answer your father's name!"

"The phrase is like a helpful command that nudges you to do something -- anything -- good, if only for the sake of your papa," says Okasi, who offers an insightful commentary on all things Sheen.

Sheen's story was just one of 85 that published on 17 AOL sites last week. Forty-one writers showcased their masterpieces, and you can see them all by scrolling down for a complete listing of all published works.

Dog Aggression Explained (and Other Seed Successes, Mon, 2.21.11 - Sun, 2.27.11)

Forty percent of dogs have growled at their owners at one time or another, and as scary as this might seem, certified animal behavior consultant Amy D. Shojai says dogs aren't evil, and you are not a bad owner if you have a growly dog. Shojai talks doggie behavior in her PawNation article Dog Aggression - Dealing With the 5 Kinds, and guess what? It might just be a play issue causing Fido's mood swings, or maybe your cutie is just protecting you!

Shojai also shares some scoop on cat behavior, and if you, too, would like to write about animals, PawNation needs you. Inquire within: Open Call for Pet Writers!

It wasn't all animal talk last week, when 47 writers published 115 stories on 13 AOL sites. Scroll down for a complete listing of the published works.
